Rare Joseph Manton Tube Lock and Elevation Patent Side by Side 20 Bore Shotgun

This is a Joseph Manton side-by-side 20 bore shotgun built on his tube lock system, with the barrel rib inscribed Joseph Mantons Patent Elevation and a Blissetts patent grip safety. The barrels measure 31 1/3 inches and retain all of their original finish, with bores described as excellent and bright. Locks, tube cocks and furniture are finely engraved, the French walnut stock keeps 98 percent of its original finish, and the ramrod is ebony. It is catalogued as a pre-1899 antique.

A piece like this belongs with a Connecticut collector of early sporting guns rather than in a deer blind. The tube lock and elevation patent are the special features the gun is known for, and the condition report, original barrel finish, bright bores and near-complete stock finish, is what sets it apart from working examples. The gun is held at the seller's Dallas location, which affects transit time.
