The Tokarev TAR-12P is a semi-automatic 12 gauge that feeds from a detachable five-round magazine, one of which is included. Its 18.5-inch barrel is 4140 steel, proof tested, with a 3-inch chamber and threads for Benelli/Mobil pattern chokes, which come in the box. The furniture is synthetic in a blue and black finish. Folding polymer sights lie flat along the M1913 rail on top, which also takes a red dot or other compatible optic, and a manual safety is fitted.

A box-magazine shotgun reloads by swapping magazines rather than feeding a tube, which changes how the gun is run on a range drill or in a defensive role. Tokarev lists it for defensive, training and range use. With single projectiles a 12 gauge is also within Connecticut's private-land deer rules for November 18 to December 8, and state land in that season allows shotguns and muzzleloaders only.
