This Ames rifleman's knife is dated 1849 and described by the seller as very rare. About half of the original factory polish survives on the blade, the markings are clear and crisp, and it comes with its original sheath, whose leather shows age crackle. The hanger is in very good condition. The date, the maker's markings and the complete sheath and hanger set are the points a collector checks first, and all three are here.
A Connecticut collector of mid-nineteenth-century American edged weapons gets a dated piece with its carry rig intact: the knife, the original leather sheath and the hanger that held it on the belt. Condition is stated plainly, half the factory polish, crisp marks, crackled but original leather, and nothing is claimed beyond that. It is an accessory item, not a firearm, and ships without a dealer transfer.
